Day 3
Objectives-
  • Openly discuss their identity
  • Relate themselves with a famous figure like a athlete, musician or famous actor and analyze why they feel they can relate to this person.
  • Observe the roles of gender and discuss roles of gender identity
Materials:
  • Writing utensils
  • Paper
  • Book

Plan-
  • Warm-up- students will write a name poem for Ponyboy in pairs (acrostic poem) (10 minutes)
  • Discussion- The pairs will stand up and present their poems in pairs. After the classroom will have a discussion (15 minutes).
  • Activity- Choose a famous person that you feel shares a similar identity and has the same values as yourself. Write down the values and write a paragraph or two, and or draw a picture. Think, pair, share. Share with the partner and ask for volunteers (15 minutes)
  • Exit slip- What are three traits the help define Ponyboy’s indentity.

Homework- Read chapter 3

Accommodations- Luke will be able to list his values and give short descriptions instead of writing full paragraphs. Luke will also be able to draw a comic strip or visual pictures instead of writing about his famous person. Eric and Anna will be encouraged to share with the entire class.

--Because Luke has been diagnosed with dyslexia, being able to use bullet points to illustrate his values will be a simpler exercise that he can focus on what he is trying to say rather than proper sentence form, etc. also being able to draw will give him a creative outlet from the already challenging writing he has to do all day long. Becuase Anna is diagnosed with ADHD and really likes to talk, especially about herself, by encouraging her to volunteer and share with the class she will be able to use her voice and be able to talk, which will keep her from talking to her neighbors and disrupting her class. Because Eric is prone to have a scream fit if he doesn't agree with someone it would be a good idea for him to share. Then he is not only included in the classroom discussion and that gives him something to focus on but it also is something that he will not get upset over. ---
